Gudger, Tennessee—
I have explored close to 100 abandoned houses over the last years. In each home, I had come across something that creates this atmosphere that is equally unsettling as it is haunting. My dad had told me about the bed that was still in this house, but I could never imagine just how eerie of an atmosphere it would create to my picture taking experience.
What is a little odd is that many of my Facebook friends had commented that by even looking at my photos of the house and bed, they felt “strange vibes”, saying that the bed is what perhaps unnerved them the most. I agree with their observations and even I had a strange feeling in that room, a feeling that signified that I was in the presence of something. Whatever it may be, I think that a lot of my FB friends may have been unnerved because it is simply a bed. When you think of a bed, you think of a place of comfort, security, and a warm place for you to sleep at night. Seeing this bed exposed to the elements and unused for decades may have attributed to its disturbing mystique. The bed may have been left here for many reasons—it was no longer needed, so the family left it in there or someone may have died in that bed.
